The Blue Line of Yokohama Municipal Subway has an underground station at Yokohama Station which is located on the southwest side of the main station building. The Blue Line connects Yokohama Station with the shinkansen terminal at Shin-Yokohama Station and with Yokohama’s main sightseeing locations in the Minato Mirai area and Chinatown.
Entrances to the subway station can be found inside and outside the Joinus shopping center on the southwest side of the main station building.
From inside the main station building Joinus can be accessed directly via the west exit of the Southern Passage. Alternatively leave the main station building via the west exits of the Central or Northern passages, turn left and you will see subway signs ahead of you.
The subway station has ticket gates on the B2 basement level and platforms on the B3 level.
Tickets and Information
On the B2 basement level there is a Municipal Subway & Bus Customer Service Center. Here you can make enquiries about subway and city bus services and buy discount passes. A one day pass for the subway and a one day pass for both the subway and for city bus services are both available.
The One-Day Subway Pass costs 740 yen for adults and 370 yen for children while the Subway & Bus One Day Pass costs 830 yen for adults and 420 yen for children.
Ticket machines on the B2 basement level are located by the ticket gates. These machines can be used to buy regular tickets, one-day discount passes, and prepaid PASMO IC cards. These machines can also be used to top up PASMO cards.
The ticket machines are operated by a touch screen, have English language guidance and are easy to use. Fare charts above the ticket machines show all the stations and fares on the city’s subway system in both English and Japanese.
Platforms
The Blue Line has two platforms at Yokohama Station. Both platforms have safety gates.
Platform 1 has southbound services for Sakuragicho, Kannai and Shonandai. Sakuragicho is convenient for the Minato Mirai seafront area, while Kannai is convenient for Yokohama Chinatown.
Platform 2 has services bound for Shin-Yokohama, Center-Kita, and Azamino. Shin-Yokohama Station is the stop for Tokaido Shinkansen services and is also convenient for Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum.
Digital signs on both platforms give departure information in English as well as Japanese.
