Yokohama, Japan’s second-largest city, offers a variety of accommodation options suitable for different budgets, travel plans and interests.
If you are planning on a quick stay before heading off on a trip across Japan, then you will probably want to stay near the Shinkansen (bullet train) terminal of Shin-Yokohama Station. On the other hand, if you want to use Yokohama as a base for exploring other parts of Kanagawa prefecture or neighboring Tokyo, then staying near Yokohama Station could be your best choice.
However, if your focus is on Yokohama itself, you will want to stay closer to Yokohama Bay, which is where most of the city’s main tourist areas are located. Here you will find the modern, upscale waterfront area of Minato Mirai, the colorful streets and restaurants of Yokohama Chinatown, and the more relaxed, historic area of Yamate.
